Education & Training with Local 26

At Local 26, we take pride in providing highly skilled professionals for every aspect of a production. As such, we offer an ongoing series of training courses and seminars to our members and referents on a wide variety of topics. These classes provide our workers with the opportunity to gain new knowledge and skills as well as keeping existing knowledge and skills up to date. Class size is determined on a per-class basis, and location is determined by what subject matter will be covered and what equipment is required. All classes are subject to change. Classes are free to members – non-members may be charged a minimal fee. Some classes may be recorded.

In addition to in-person classes, Local 26 also keeps a small collection of reference materials and books available for our members and referents to borrow. A deposit may be required upon checkout.

Also of note, The IATSE Entertainment and Exhibition Industries Training Trust Fund (a partnership between the IATSE and Signatory Employers) provides training opportunities for IATSE workers to achieve and maintain the skills, ability, and knowledge necessary to keep abreast of new technologies and ensure our workers are the best qualified.

The TTF not only offers a series of its own courses, but has also partnered with LinkedIn Learning and Avixa.com to provide online courses to all IATSE workers covered under a collective bargaining agreement.

IATSE Safety Resources

Training is obviously essential for learning new skills, honing current skills, and adapting to new technology. But safety is important for everyone regardless of skill level, position, or any other factor. The Training Trust Fund has put together a list of Safety Mobile Apps along with their cost (if any).

Resource Center Policy

Local 26 Resource Center Policy

Each Resource Center item may be checked out for a period of three weeks (to the closest business day), and each item requires a $10.00 cash deposit. The deposit will be held and returned to the borrower upon timely return of the item.

Should a referent fail to return an item, the deposit is forfeited. Additionally, a fine of $1.00 per day will be added to the referent’s account, said fine to accrue until the item is returned or the purchase price of the item is reached, whichever is greater. They may also replace a borrowed item with a new one if they so choose.

Resource Center items are property of IATSE Local 26, and shall be returned in the same condition in which they were borrowed, or a fine may be assessed up to the replacement cost of the damaged item.

Failure to return a Resource Center item on time, and failure to pay any fine assessed as a result, is considered a failure to fulfill a financial obligation under Article 5, Section 2 of the Local 26 Job Referral Procedure, which states:

When referral fees and fines are not paid within fourteen (14) calendar days, the delinquent referent shall be suspended from the referral list and he/she will no longer be eligible for referrals. In addition, he/she will not accrue seniority during such period of delinquency. Delinquents will not be reinstated on the referral list until they have tendered the full job referral fee and/or fine which is due.

Members will have priority access to Resource Center materials over non-members, but materials are available to all referents whether members or not.

Cash deposits will be kept in a locked box at the Local 26 office until either returned to the referent or deposited as a fine. This in no way implies Local 26 is or will begin accepting cash for any other purpose. Any fine in addition to the deposit must be paid with either a check, money order, or debit/credit card transaction at the Local 26 office, or through the PayPal link on the Local 26 website, found at:

Each referent, upon borrowing their first item, shall sign and date a form agreeing to the above terms. This form will remain on file for the duration of the referent’s affiliation with Local 26.

Resource Center items count toward training hours. Each referent will be credited one hour for each 100 pages they read, upon return of the book. Videos will be credited for their length of time.

Deposit Agreement

IATSE Local 26 Resource Center Security Deposit Agreement

The undersigned agrees to pay a ten dollar ($10.00) cash deposit for each item checked out from the Resource Center, said deposit to be returned to the borrower upon timely return of the items checked out.

Resource Center items may be checked out for a period of three (3) weeks, to the closest business day. Local 26 will hold the cash deposit until the due date has passed.

Should the undersigned fail to return items on time, the cash deposit is subject to forfeit. Additionally, a fine of $1.00 per day will be assessed until such time as the item is returned or the purchase price of the item is reached, whichever is greater. The undersigned may also replace a borrowed item with a new one if they so choose.

Non-payment of a Resource Center fine shall be considered a financial obligation to Local 26, and is therefore covered under Article 5 of the Job Referral Procedure, which states a Referent “shall be suspended from the referral list and… will no longer be eligible for referrals… Delinquents will not be reinstated on the referral list until they have tendered the full job referral fee and/or fine which is due.” Full text can be found in the Job Referral Procedure.

I, ___________________________________ (print name) agree to the above conditions for borrowing Resource Center items. I understand my cash deposit will be held and returned to me if I return the item(s) on time, and that I will be subject to additional fine and suspension from the referral list until such time as I fulfill my obligations to return or pay to replace each item in my possession. This Agreement remains in effect until mutually agreed between myself and Local 26.

The website is a resource designed to build understanding about the experiences of different group of workers, and provide practical tools to help unions promote DEI as an important aspect of good jobs.
